The patient had a discolored front tooth and an old filling.
The tooth died after it was traumatized and a root canal was done. However, it was unable to fix the discoloration.
Up close view of old, discolored filling.
A round of whitening was done because the patient wanted to improve the overall color of his teeth.
After whitening, the teeth were allowed to rest for two weeks to allow some color rebound to take place. This ensures that the final shade will be maintainable without constant bleaching touch ups.
Waiting a few weeks after bleaching helps to ensure that the final shade will be maintainable without constant (bleaching) touch ups.
Pre-treatment close up view, after bleaching.
The old filling material was removed and the tooth prepared for a crown.
Immediately after fabrication, the crown was slightly too bulky and lacked characterization.
This close up view shows that the final crown still needs a little more characterization added (done at the lab), in order to look like a natural tooth. Since we are going for the BEST we can get, it’s worth one extra appointment to get this right! These single front tooth cases are often among the most difficult esthetic cases to do because of the details in the characterization of some people’s teeth.
It was then modified and glazed before it was finally delivered.
Close up view of final crown in place.
The end result was a tooth that was natural and esthetic – a far cry from where the patient began his journey!
