Patient presented with a missing lateral incisor that had been missing for quite some time.
She had been wearing a removeable partial (sometimes called a “flipper”) and wanted something permanent and natural looking.
This occlusal view shows just how thin the bony ridge had become from the tooth missing for so long. Luckily, there was just enough bone to get an implant in without having to do a separate bone grafting procedure. We did add a little bit of bone around it at the time of placement, however, the implant was not quite stable enough that day to place an immediate temporary on, so she had to continue wearing the flipper for a little while longer while the implant integrated with the bone.
Implant, 3 months post placement, frontal view.
Implant x-ray, 3 months post placement.
Implant, 3 months post placement, occlusal view. From this view, you can see how the added bone material has thickened the ridge. This implant is now stable and ready for a tooth! Before proceeding with the final restoration, we opted to make a temporary crown and have her wear it for several weeks to reshape the gum tissue to be more tooth shaped. This way, when we make the Final Impression for the permanent crown, the gum line will look better.
Made a temporary crown, which she wore for several weeks to train the gum tissue to be more tooth shaped. She was thrilled to NOT have to wear the flipper anymore!
Implant and final crown, x-ray upon delivery of final crown.
Final implant crown in place. Looks great!
